Digestrin Side Effects

According its manufacturers, Digestrin is a “natural” herbal supplement which helps treat the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). However, just because it is all-natural doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s totally safe to use. Digestrin has side effects, like any other supplement.
The key ingredients of Digestrin may set off health consequences. These components, while known to be individually effective in treating gastrointestinal disorders, can also substantially affect other bodily processes. The manufacturer claims that side effects may be avoided when you stay within the recommended dosage, though. Still, you should ask your doctor about whether your pre-existing medical conditions can make you prone to the side effects even when you only take safe amounts.
The valerian root, one main ingredient found in Digestrin, works as a sedative. Overdose may cause specific effects on the nervous system where it is purported to work. In large amounts, valerian may cause headaches, dizziness and abnormal sleepiness. At worst, overdose may also cause mental dullness and mild depression due to its sedative properties.
Intake of Ginkgo, another key ingredient of Digestrin, may cause adverse effects on the cardiovascular system. Because it is a known stimulant, it can cause heart palpitations when taken in huge amounts or for a prolonged period of time. Other known side-effects of ginkgo are vomiting, restlessness, nausea and bleeding. It is important to note that the intake of this substance should be in regulated amounts only. However, the information provided on the supplement’s packaging is often not enough –there is no way of telling how much of the plant is contained in each capsule.
